Matthew 5:5-6
[5] “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.
[6] “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.
Head: How does Jesus' life show us what meekness is?
Heart: How much do you desire in your heart to grow in righteousness?
Hands: Are you trying to grow in righteousness on your own or are you depending on the power of the Holy Spirit to work in your heart?
Jesus Christ showed us what true meekness is. It is joyfully submitting to the desires of God so that God would be glorified. It also means considering our fellow neighbor's interest before that of my own.
He demonstrated this heart in the ultimate way, as He gave His life as a sacrifice so that we would benefit from it. He Himself is fully righteous, but He desired righteousness for us, so He did what was necessary to achieve it for us.
Jesus wants us to desire that righteousness in our hearts and to grow in His righteousness. Yet, this does not mean that we just try harder and harder to be righteous. This righteous growth only happens through the power of His Spirit in our lives. So we must seek Him in prayer and meekly and actively present ourselves daily to Him so that His Spirit would do in us today what is best for our growth in righteousness.
