Matthew 6:25-26

Matthew 6:25-26
[25] “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? [26] Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?

As you read the passage, what blessed you, challenged you, or raised questions?

Head:  What assurance does the passage give that you will be safe and fulfilled tomorrow and the day after that?

Heart:  What things do we sometimes look for to find security and satisfaction?

Hands:  How can you find a greater sense of comfort from God by observing nature?

Do you worry about your future?  Do you worry about your health and your fulfillment in life?  To calm these concerns over the uncertainty and unpredictability of the future, we may make efforts to hoard money to feel more secure or to have more possessions or experiences to feel more satisfied.

A previous passage reminded us that all things are temporary and will eventually perish.  Today's passage teaches us that God is permanent and faithful, and that we should trust in Him to keep us safe and fulfilled.

The passage gives us the example of birds, which make effort to work each day for food and shelter.  Yet, even though there is much out of their control, someone is providing for them.  God makes the seasons change, the sun to rise again and the rains to fall.  God is already taking care of you and me, whether we know it or not.  Let's make sure we know it and live by it.
