Keeping in Touch

Hello, everyone. Here's this week's update/prayer request for college/campus ministry.

1) Baltimore Inner City (BIM) Afterschool tutoring. The 3 Hopkins students that went with me last week are coming again tomorrow. One more expressed interest in joining. This not only meets BIM's needs, but it also enables me to keep developing a relationship with them. They visited on Sunday a couple weeks ago, and for the next many weeks, they will be visiting other churches. I’m thankful for this volunteering opportunity together, because it let’s me stay in contact with them.

Please pray that God would help us develop a pastoral relationship and that He would bring them to our church to form a good core group for college ministry.

2) Existing College Students. Please keep our existing students in prayer, that they will develop a good relationship with new students. Pray also that we will give them just as much attention and care as new people.

[UPDATE]

Today, we had a time of 1-on-1 sharing and praying with students. It was great how we got to minister to the kids directly, going beyond just the academic assistance! The kids were receptive and I think this was good for the college students, too.

Guidance and Wisdom

Hello, everyone. I hope everyone's staying dry in this intense humidity! Here's this week's update:

1) Please pray for guidance and wisdom. Though we have been praying for college outreach, this recent access to students came very suddenly. I am basically praying and planning as we go. There are times when we wait patiently on the Lord (the past two years). And then there are times when God says, “run!” And our job is to go, even if we don’t feel ready. I think this may be that time. Honestly, I feel like I’m just barely keeping up with outreaching to new students and ministering to existing students.

2) Please pray for a group of servants who can be dedicated solely to this ministry. Pray for HaeRee and Wongun, who are faithfully ministering to college students alongside me, even as they serve youth group, mustard seed, praise team, etc.

3) Welcome Night. Due to the uncertainty of how the rains will affect this weekend, I'm leaning towards postponing the Welcome Night to next Saturday. Please pray for wisdom on this. The decision needs to be made today, because food has to be ordered today if we're doing it this week.

4) Guest Speaking at College Park. I'll be speaking at a Christian club at College Park tonight to encourage our students who attend there and to get the word out about us. Please pray for the power of the Word!

Smaller, Yet Deeper

Hello, everyone. Thank you for your continued prayer and support for our college ministry. Here is a quick update since last week.

1) VOLUNTEERING TOGETHER. On Thursday (9/6), I went with one Hopkins freshmen to the Baltimore Inner City Mission (BIM) as volunteer tutors. The pastor at BIM had informed me many times in the past of their need for volunteer tutors. When some students expressed interest, I decided to take them. One came today and next week, two additional freshmen will join us. Please pray that as we serve together, God will form a meaningful pastoral bond between me and the students.

2) SMALLER GROUP OUTREACH. Tonight, I will be meeting two freshmen that visited last Sunday. I'm meeting them in smaller groups now to get to know them more personally. Danika, our student from UMD will also join, so she can connect with them. I will be sharing our church vision with them. Please pray that God would guide that time and stir their hearts for the Lord's Kingdom. Pray also that if it’s His will, that God would lead them to our church.

3) WELCOME NIGHT. Next Saturday we will have a welcome night at our church for college and Young adults. This is a great opportunity for new members to get connected, and also for people who have left to return. Please spread the word.

4) EXISTING STUDENTS. please pray for existing college students, that they can will be refreshed and involved in our outreach to new students. Any time there is outreach to new people, there is always the possibility that existing members feel neglected. Pray that leaders can be wise and can care for existing people well that they are encouraged and excited as well.

Caring for Our Own

Today, I met our MICA student Sunbeen. Sunbeen, along with Danika and Hyogun are recent graduates of our youth group. Please pray for these three, that they can make a good transition into our college group. Let’s all pray and outreach to them so they can know they are loved here and have a place here.

Outreach Tonight

4:30pm
Hello, everyone. Please keep tonight in prayer. My family, along with HaeRee and Min will be taking out some Hopkins freshmen to Korean BBQ to connect with them and outreach to them.

Pray for a fruitful time of love shared and relationships formed. There will be about 8 students coming.

Please pray for tomorrow's worship, that God would be glorified and that He would open the hearts of all who gather. Thank you!

An important part of our college ministry is giving rides so students can come to our church. We have two cars prepared to pick up students for Sunday worship tomorrow. But I think we need one more. There are 12 people who want to visit. If you can help with rides tomorrow please let me know! We can take them back with the van after worship, so you would just do a one way ride in the morning.

Fall Outreach

Hi, everyone. How are you all? :) This blog is a prayer and update blog for people who are interested in supporting our college ministry. As many of you may know, we've been praying for a while now for God to help us to reach the campuses with the Gospel. And recently, the fruit of those prayers are showing.

Last week, we had a new student from Towson and one from UMBC. This Sunday, a few more new students may come to visit from Johns Hopkins. So we're actively trying to outreach and care for them.

This Saturday, we are inviting new college students to go get Korean BBQ in Ellicott City. A few have already said that they will join. Please pray that the BBQ will bring them, but that gospel centered relationships will connect them to us. If you wish to join to reach out to new students, you are more than welcome. Thanks!

When: 9/1 (Sat), 6pm
Where: Shin Chon Korean BBQ
