James 1:16-18

James 1:16-18
[16] Do not be deceived, my beloved brothers. [17] Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. [18] Of his own will he brought us forth by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.

Reflection Questions:

Head: What does the passage tell us to focus on to be reassured of God’s love for us?

Heart: When do you find it heart to trust God?

Hands: How you can help others focus on what Jesus has done for them, so that they may also be reassured of God’s love and power in their life?

Why does God let unfair things happen to me? Does God not care when I am miserable? Does God love me? Maybe you may have thought some of these things in the past. Maybe you're going through some things that cause you to wonder in such ways right now. Yesterday's and today's passages are an encourage to us that in Christ, God loves us, He cares for you, especially in your suffering, and that God wants great things for you.

Today's passage helps give us perspective. If you have questions about God’s love and power for you, then look for reassurance in the blessings He has already given to you. It is a reminder that every good thing that we have in life are all from God. Because of what Jesus has done for you, God is our perfect and loving Father, and that will never change, because Jesus' work is a lasting and powerful work (v.17). It's far more powerful than any person or any circumstance out there. It's even more powerful than our own emotional brokenness within.

Verse 18 reminds us that God was very intentional in creating us and that we have a special place in His heart and in all of creation. So yes, God loves you. God knows the injustices you may be going through. But be of good cheer! God's own son Jesus has suffered the greatest injustice, and He overcame it so that salvation can be given to you, me and others who call on His name!

"I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)
