Matthew 5:13-16

Matthew 5:13-16
[13] “You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people’s feet. [14] “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. [15] Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. [16] In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

Head: What is the more important function of a lamp? To be pretty or to shine the light that it possesses?

Heart: How precious is Jesus to you? Do you want others to know Jesus too?

Head: What are ways we can make Jesus known (Big and small ways. With words and/or actions. Publicly or privately in relationships)

What impact are you making in the lives of others? Some of us may impact many people, and some of us may impact the lives of one or two people. The important thing is that we be faithful to this calling, that God may use us according to HIS desires and design. Let me share the story of two people.

Augustine is known to have impacted millions of people throughout history. He was a foundational teacher of the Bible whose writings helped people to understand the Bible for generations. Yet, he didn't start out as a faithful and impactful Christian. In fact for many years of his life, he lived his life running away from God and pursuing a wanton worldly lifestyle. He possessed such a such mind and keen intelligence that when Christians tried to debate Christianity with him, he was able to out argue them.

Yet, a time came later on when Augustine moved to Milan, Italy to pursue further studies under a teacher named Ambrose. Ambrose possessed a mind which matched Augustine, and he also possessed a faithful Christian faith. It was through Ambrose's influence that Augustine finally understood and embraced the Christian faith.

Augustine has impacted millions of lives. Ambrose is mainly known for his impact on Augustine's life. But if was because of Ambrose that Augustine came to faith in Christ. This was the beauty of God's plan. It is not important whether you impact lots or a few. Just be faithful to God to be used by Him according to His desire and design.
