James 1:22-25

James 1:22–25
[22] But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. [23] For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. [24] For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. [25] But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing.

Reflection Questions

Head: What does verse 25 say about the importance of being a doer of the Word?

Heart: How much do you want Jesus to impact you?

Hands: What is something you can put into action today so that your faith is a blessing to you?

Actions speak louder than words. In other words, words matter in as much as your actions back them up. For Christians, it is important that we put our faith into action both for people around and ourselves.

Today's passage and tomorrow's passage emphasize the importance of putting our faith in action. Verse 25 in today's passage says that if you only talk about your faith but do not apply it to your daily life, you forget it (and are not affected by it). But if we apply our faith to our daily life and let it impact our life, that's when we are truly blessed! Tomorrow's passage tells us how important it is to meet the needs of others. Let's rely on the Holy Spirit in us to empower us to live for God today.
